ASSISTANT LIBRARY DIRECTOR

The Anoka County Library Department has an immediate opening for an Assistant Library Director who will supervise the staff, operations and services of the eight Anoka County Library branches to ensure patrons receive effective, accurate and complete service; to lead public service supervisors and managers in recommending policy and setting procedures for the Library system; and to maintain regular and effective contact with other Anoka County departments, and other local, metro and statewide organizations in performance of her/his responsibilities.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):

Supervises the operations, services, and programs of the branch libraries and coordinates services to ensure efficient library operation, coordinates the work of branch libraries with the other departments of the library ensuring that communication, common procedures and staff cross-training are maintained and followed; interviews, supervises, trains, evaluates, directs, and recommends for hiring, promotion, dismissal and status changes the staff assigned to Public Services; assigns appropriate personnel with the service group; regularly attends meetings with Friends of Anoka County Library, other county departments, and other statewide and national organizations; meets regularly with branch managers, other library department heads, the management team, and the Library Board to set procedures, recommend policies and manage services for Anoka County Library; recommends improvements and changes for the development of library buildings and services; prepares and recommends an annual budget request for the library’s public services department; acquaints users with facilities and services of Anoka County Library, and represents the library system to the public.

REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution or equivalent education and experience; minimum of 6 years progressively responsible professional experience in a public library including at least three years of supervisory/management experience.

Knowledge of: Supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning and budgeting; principles and methods of professional library work; reference services, youth services, and collection management and their roles in the public library.

Ability to: Think strategically and use creative, collaborative, approaches to problem-solving and decision-making; evaluate the library’s performance and needs and to control the budget assigned; work well with the public; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, department managers, supervisors and other County employees.

Skill in: Leadership, communication and planning; assessing staff and organizational needs; selecting, supervising, training, evaluation of professional and clerical staff; written and oral communications; developing and implementing policies and procedures.

Must successfully pass a criminal history and driver’s license check.

Hiring Range: $67,449 to $75,527 annualized
2016 Salary Range: $67,449 – $99,759 annualized.
