The Brainerd Lakes Area has 465 lakes within 30 minutes of Brainerd, our community is the perfect place to enjoy outdoor and recreational activities and summer on the lake. Brainerd is also centrally located to all that Minnesota has to offer and Brainerd Public Library is right in the middle of it all. The library has beautiful public art installations, new outdoor seating areas and gardens, an interactive early literacy environment, dedicated and passionate staff, a vibrant Friends of the Library and tremendous community support.
As a low-income community, many Brainerd residents do not have the resources to purchase advanced technology or attend professional classes. The goal of this project is to work to ensure that low-income youth in Brainerd receive improved access to new technologies and makerspace programming that will help them increase academic success. This will be achieved by targeting outreach to community youth programs and organizations in the high poverty areas of Brainerd. Through this position you would build the capacity of the Innovator Lab by developing a sustainable volunteer recruitment and management system for the makerspace programming, help to bring STEM programming into the community, assist with establishing the Innovator Lab (Spheros, Lego robotics, 3D-printer, photography equipment and much more), Innovator Lab promotion and more.
