Accessible Media Coordinator – Minnesota State Services for the Blind

Minnesota State Services for the Blind is hiring an accessible media coordinator.  This position provides technical program oversight, support, training, and research to the Communication Center, primarily in the areas of:  1) creating digital audiobook structures, e-text, and large print materials in accordance with DAISY and other accepted standards; 2) recruiting, training, providing technical support to and coordinating assignments for structuring and e-text/large print volunteers; 3) providing technical expertise in the use, testing, and development of the digital DAISY and e-text/large print programs; 4) providing specialized technical assistance to colleges and universities accessing textbooks through assistive technology; and 5) maintaining current knowledge of accessible technology, activities, trends, and relevant laws.  There is some travel to educational facilities around the state, as well as in-state and out-of-state conferences.

Job Duties:
-Coordinate the digital structuring and preparation for duplication of audio materials and the production of large print and e-text transcriptions.
-Coordinate and support the structuring, e-text, and large print volunteer corps so that customer schedules are met and materials are produced of the highest quality.
-Provide technical expertise in the use, testing, and development of the digital DAISY and e-text/large print programs.
-Provide statewide leadership in promoting availability of services and resources.  Educate and provide technical assistance to SSB colleagues, educational institutions, students, businesses, organizations, and individuals on Communication Center services for their students who cannot read standard print.

Minimum Qualifications
-Two years’ experience creating accessible media (e-text, large print, braille, audio).  A Bachelor’s degree will substitute for one year of experience.
-Knowledge and understanding of textbook formats, structures, and taxonomy sufficient to create DAISY book structures, e-text, and large print materials.
-Ability to read directly from original standard print book and inaccessible electronic materials.
-Working knowledge of and experience with computer fundamentals, database management, and software programs, including word-processing and spreadsheets.
-Strong problem solving skills.
-Excellent organization, time management, and detail skills.
-Excellent human relations skills.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills to persons of varied skills, abilities, and intellect

Preferred Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree
-Experience as a volunteer or volunteer coordinator
-Experience working with persons who cannot read standard print.
-Experience in training and/or teaching.
-Experience with screen reading programs, such as JAWS and NVDA.
-Experience testing, troubleshooting, and teaching computer software programs.

Salary:
The salary range is $19.97 – $29.00/hourly; $41,697 – $60,552/annually
