Drake University Law Library seeks an Access Services Associate. The Access Services Associate supervises student shelving assistants and oversees collection maintenance and stack management for the law library. This person will also work at the Information Desk to handle circulation functions and assist library patrons. Other job duties include managing overdue notices and bills, monitoring facility needs, and processing materials. Attention to detail and a commitment to customer service are essential.  Start date – July 1, 2021.

Function Percent Description
01 25% Manage stack projects, including shelving, shifting, shelf checking, book repair, and collection assessment work and oversee student shelving assistant work. Develop, record, implement, and regularly review stack management procedures.
02 25% Coordinate Stacks Maintenance staffing, including responsibility for all aspects of hiring and managing student shelving assistants. Ensure comprehensive training. Manage scheduling, oversight, and time card reporting processes for student shelving assistants.
03 15% Process and monitor library overdue notices and bills.
04 10% Help staff the Information Desk and handle advanced circulation functions. Serve as initial point of contact for all library services by greeting and assisting library visitors. Interpret library policies and procedures for faculty, staff, students, and other library patrons. Assist library users with information, circulation, and facilities requests; accessing library computers and utilizing copiers, scanners, and printers; and finding needed information using catalogs, indices, and computer databases, as appropriate. Monitor and respond to law-circulation email and daily circulation reports. Create and maintain patron records. Place items on reserve.
05 10% Perform a variety of collection duties, such as preparing holdings lists and select material processing. Maintain accurate library indexes and records.
06 5% Serve as primary printing/copying liaison on weekday evenings, and back-up liaison on weekdays, by training Law Library staff as needed, ordering and replacing supplies, and communicating problems to the vendor.
07 5% Oversee a regular inventory of facility needs, such as lighting, signage, chairs, etc. Report or complete repairs as appropriate.
08 5% Perform select administrative duties and provide back-up to other library staff.

Computer experience, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications, ability to search databases and online catalog. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required to work effectively with faculty, staff, students and visitors.  Bachelor or Associate degree preferred.
