Marketing Manager, Data Strategy and Governance – Best Buy

Consistent marketing data for planning, execution, and measurement of marketing messages, offers, vehicles, and campaigns is a critical component for the transformation of Best Buys business. As part of the transformation, this role will be responsible for leading the design and rollout of a marketing data framework and implementing the framework by chairing the Marketing Data Governance Committee. The Manager, Data Strategy and Governance will develop the user stories and business requirements for an accessible taxonomy with verified data. The role requires the ability to develop, enhance, and maintain a taxonomy model and framework that can be leveraged and executed as part of the Marketing planning, production and measurement process.

Responsibilities:

• Leverage taxonomy and classification knowledge to design and continuously improve marketing taxonomy.
• Analyze data topics across marketing vehicles and work with planning and operational teams to consolidate data topics and taxonomy across vehicles.
• Work with strategy, planning, operational, and analytics teams to consolidate data topics and taxonomy across vehicles.
• Partner with marketing, e-commerce and IT teams to implement taxonomy across vehicles and IT implementations while managing change.
• Chair cross-functional Marketing Data Governance Committee responsible for structure and use of data.
• Develop overview and training documents for use by departments and teams who will be leveraging marketing data.
• Evangelize and train users across marketing, IT, merchandising, and other peripheral capabilities as part of the ongoing rollout of the taxonomy.
• Support the development and ongoing management of marketing library management.
• Analyze and provide reporting metrics to inform leadership of project growth

Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree (Marketing or related preferred) or industry equivalent experience
• 5+ years experience in data taxonomy or library science including project management or operations experience
• 2+ years designing taxonomy and classifications.
• Experience in cross-functional leadership, working with business, IT and operations related to implementation of new projects with change management (ex. taxonomy update/implementation)
• 2+ or more years people or resource leadership experience (direct or indirect)
• Motivated, self-starter who has a proven track record of leading taxonomy strategy
• Strong knowledge of the digital marketing industry, trends and tactics (e.g., email, search, affiliates, digital media, social)

Preferred Requirements:

• Bachelor or Graduate degree in library and information science and/or equivalent work experience
• 3 or more years progressive marketing media planning experience in advertising agency or client setting
• Retail and national brand experience preferred
• Knowledge of analytical tools for web, advertising, media attribution and/or direct marketing including segmentation and modeling, back-end response analysis, quantitative and research
• Strong presentation skills to garner support for data governance
• Significant organizational skills to work effectively in a fast paced environment demanding quick responses
• Digital product management experience
• Interest in innovation, digital media, and information technology.
